Description: Hotei was the god of happiness and good fortune, one of the part Buddhist, part Taoist, Seven Lucky Gods in whose company he is often illustrated. The sound of his name can mean both ‘ linen bag’, and ‘round belly’, and he is usually depicted wearing loose, open clothes with his large hairy stomach exposed. He carries a large bag, which is supposedly full of treasure.
